Sacramento Fashion Week: Day One, part 2

Sacramento Struts Its Stuff
Sacramento Fashion Week kicked off the first of its two fashion shows with a showcase of local student designers.  While the creations on the runway were more chutzpah than couture, the collections belied a fledgling ambition that charmed and delighted the crowd. In bold prints, liquid fabrics and feather dazzlers, these designers seemed eager to declare their new "watch me now" status. Sacramento seems eager to be put on the fashion map, and this evening marks a promise of it doing just that.

Granting Wishes Through Fashion
This year Magnum Opus will be producing Sacramento Fashion Week 2011 to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Sacramento and Northeastern California. The Make-A-Wish Foundation of Sacramento & Northeastern California is a non-profit organization committed to helping children with life-threatening diseases by making their dreams come true. The Foundation now grants a wish to a sick child every 40 minutes.

Sacramento Fashion Week: Day One, part 1

FASHION STRUTS DOWN THE CAPITOL
So declares the opening lines of the night's program for Sacramento Fashion Week's Emerging Designer Showcase. Produced by Magnum Opus, with the proceeds benefiting the Northern California chapter of the Make-A-Wish-Foundation, last night's fashion show at the Elks Tower Ballroom was a crowd pleaser. Featuring newly graduated design students from various local schools and a pleasantly diverse set of models from Cast Images, the Emerging Showcase shared a variety of visions from the fledgling Sacramento fashion design community. Special stand-outs were the designs by Brenda Vie, Faatui Toele and Nkaujer Jules Thor.
